About

I grew up in Romania, and I went to college learning economics.

When I came to the United States in 2003, I had pretty much no artistic background. In fact, I had never even ran a chainsaw before.

That all changed when I started working for Buzzsaw Bob. I was doing the finishwork on his carvings, sanding, painting, etc. This was my first encounter with chainsaw carving. I was so amazed by it that I wanted to learn. My first carving was a little bear. Now, seven years later, I’m decorating the entire square in the city of Monroe Wisconsin for the summer.

I moved to Monroe in 2006, opened my shop at Whitney Tree Service a year later, and the rest is history. During the summer months, I do a few shows and demonstrations. In addition to wood carving, I participated in the St. Paul winter carnival ice carving competition for several years. We were the first place team in 2005, and in 2009 we won second place and and the people's choice award. That same year, we even put together a team to go to Fairbanks, Alaska for the ice art world championship. We placed in the top ten, and that was the last time I carved ice.

After that, I discovered a wonderful part of the United States that’s called Florida. I’ve been spending my winter months there ever since.

Zoli exclusively uses Jonsered chainsaws when working on his carvings, and he gets Jonsered chainsaws from his sponsor Dick’s Repair in Brodhead, WI.
